Emergency Chest Reopening

Emergency chest reopening is a complex process that occurs infrequently on the CVICU. When it does need to be done, it frequently has to be performed rapidly. It is essential for all staff working on the CVICU to be familiar with this procedure and how to achieve it efficiently. Effective team work is essential. The short video below shows staff in the CVICU responding to a patient who deteriorates post operatively with tamponade, during a multidisciplinary simulation based training day.
