The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is one of two adult Intensive Care Units at Auckland City Hospital.  CVICU consists of 18 ICU beds and 6 HDU beds and has over 2300 admissions per year. We provide intensive care and high dependency care for adult patients (>15 yrs) undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgery (including heart and lung transplantation), and vascular surgery. We also provide intensive care and advanced respiratory and circulatory support for patients with cardiogenic shock and respiratory failure, and are the adult national referral centre for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

We work with closely with our colleagues in the Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCC) and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), for further information please visit their respective websites.
